We are quickly approaching another school year. Some children are excited to return to school and/or start school. They are excited to see old friends and meet new ones. They are ready to start their school journey or return to school in anticipation of what the year will bring! This may be new teachers, new classes, new clubs, activities, and lots of fun times!
However, other children are fearful and nervous to start school and even return to school. They may be fearful and/or nervous because of having a new teacher, being in a new classroom, going to a new school, being away from their caregiver, etc. Here are some tips to help your child:
1. It is very important to talk to you child about their feelings. Then you will know how you can help.
2. Talk about having a new teacher, new class, seeing old friends and making new friends.
3. Make sure that you and your child attend Open House to see the classroom and meet the teacher before school starts.
4. Once school starts, stay in contact with the teacher and build a relationship with them.
